    My Thoughts

Hello everyone. I have to apologize for my newsletter not coming out on time this month. My family and I were enjoying a fun filled vacation in Disney World. We had a wonderful time.

Of course, me being me, my mind was still in work mode. When you are in a place like that and surrounded by so many people it is hard not to take note. Everywhere I turned someone was utilizing an electric wheel chair. The thing that got me was, these people are young. I understand that some people do not have the use of their legs and help is a must. But that could not account for the number I saw.

I got a chance to see first hand what is happening to our society. We are gaining weight in crazy proportions, we are not exercising on a consistent basis and the results are showing. Lifestyles are being impacted and impacted in a big way.

You have the ability to take control of your life and not allow these things to happen to you.

Take action. Believe it or not the holiday season starts next week with Halloween. I have included some tips to help get you through it.

    Stay Motivated,

    Karen

    Halloween Survival

Halloween is when the holiday weight gain really starts. While December is usually the month blamed for holiday weight gain, late October is really when the pounds start getting packed on.

The amount of candy that people consume is alarming. One of the main problems is the smaller ‘snack sizes’ that the candy manufacturers have made available. Eating several ‘mini’ chocolate bars is something people see as ‘ok’ because of their smaller size.

Remember just because something is smaller doesn’t mean it is ok to consume as many as you want. For ones trying to lose weight it is imperative that you follow a plan and have goals. You can’t just have bags and bags of Halloween candy lying around for ‘Trick or Treaters’ and not expect to have your fair share – without a good plan.

Here are 5 tips that will get you started on your plan but will allow you to have a treat.

  • Allow yourself just one piece of candy in the morning and then one at night. Skip any desserts that you would normally eat after dinner.
  • Only buy enough candy so that you expect to run out before the evening is over. It’s crucial to weight loss success to not have “trigger” foods lying around – the temptation is often too great.
  • Increase your exercise activity by thirty minutes on every day that you eat your two pieces of candy. This will counteract the increase in calories that you are consuming.
  • If people indulge a bit too much it’s important to forgive themselves and move on. Dwelling on the past will not help their success.
  • Purchase bags of candy you do not like or typically would not eat.

The holiday seasons are upon us. Take action and be in control.
