    Machines vs. Free Weights

    Using free weights instead of machines has been shown to result in far better outcomes based on a study published in Sports Biomechanics. Even greater results were seen when compound exercises were incorporated into the workout.

    When using free weights you must control all aspects of the movement whereas on a machine the arm of the machine is moving around a fixed axis. Many more muscles must work to control the free weights whether it is a set of dumbbells or a barbell. In addition when using machines you are generally working through a single plane of motion

    This is not to say that you should abandon your machines. Instead, use them in conjunction with your free weights, to isolate muscle groups or hit groups that are lagging behind. They are also good for days when you would like to lift heavy but do not have a spotter.


    It's Never to Late

    Think you’re too old or to out of shape for a fitness and nutrition renovation to make a difference in your life? New studies reported in the American Journal of Medicine beg to differ. Adding more fruits and vegetables and exercising for as little as 2 and ˝ hours per week allowed participants to catch up to their peers who had been exercising consistently for many years. 4 years is the length of time it took them to have the same risk levels of long time exercisers.
