Quote of the Month A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944) One More Reason To Exercise Have you ever forgotten where you left your keys? How about forgetting why you are standing in the middle of aisle 3 at the grocery store? My favorite – frantically running up the steps only to forget why you ran up there. If any of this sounds familiar you may be a candidate for exercise. You have been given multiple reasons for years as to why you should exercise. Now you may have one more. Can Diet Soda Make you Fat? Can diet soda make you fat? Do a Google search on the internet and you are likely to find many responses for this query. A new study out of Texas has the media abuzz with startling findings. A study of 1,550 men and women who drank 1 or 2 diet sodas a day found that 54% gained weight over an 8 year period. Only 33% who drank regular soda gained weight. Are you at risk for gaining weight if you choose diet over regular? One theory that may explain these numbers is that the people drinking diet sodas may have a predisposition to weight gain. A second theory is that aspartame, the artificial sweetener that is present in diet sodas, decreases serotonin production in the body. A decrease in serotonin can lead to depression which could lead to emotional overeating. Obviously a single study can not prove this theory right or wrong but it does warrant further investigation. Monthly Fit Tip Want to get more fitness into your day without working out? Park in the furthest spot from your office and walk in. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Do some extra chores around the house. On your lunch break walk to the corner deli instead of using a delivery service. |
